LPDES General Permits

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ) has the authority to issue general permits to regulate a group of facilities with similar production processes or activities and generate similar pollutants or discharges within a geographi area.  General Permits are authorized under LAC 33:IX.2515. General permits are typically developed for small discharges with an overall low potential to impact water quality standards.  The LDEQ has developed and issued 24 different general permits.  Once a general permit is effective, if eligible, a prospective permittee must, typically, submit a Notice of Intent (NOI).  Once approved, the LDEQ will notify the permittee that it is covered by the general permit.  Certain general permits have public notice requirements of the NOI (the LAG780000 and the LAR040000).   Review each individual permit for more information regarding the public notice requirements.

General permit coverage may be requested by submitting the appropriate Notice of Intent (NOI) for coverage under a specific general permit.   Please visit the Water Forms site to find all Notices of Intent and other Water Permit Division forms.
