Waste Enforcement
Compliance in the waste program includes both meeting regulatory requirements and the enforcement actions that ensure those requirements are upheld. The Surveillance Division conducts routine waste inspections once a permit is issued, with the frequency and rotation based on the type of waste permit and the level of oversight needed for that facility. Enforcement may be initiated when violations are identified during inspections, but it can also result from agency file reviews, reported incidents, or facility releases that indicate a potential breach of waste management regulations.

About Waste Enforcement
The Enforcement Division receives referrals resulting from inspections and/or file reviews performed by Department personnel to determine the degree of compliance with the State of Louisiana Environmental Regulations. The Enforcement Division is divided into four (4) groups. The Waste/Multimedia Enforcement Section receives referrals that may contain violations of the following regulations: Hazardous Waste, Solid Waste (including Waste Tires), Underground Storage Tanks (UST), and/or Radiation Protection regulations. These regulations are codified in Title 33 of the Louisiana Administrative Code (LAC). The Waste/Multimedia Enforcement Section determines the appropriate course of action based on the findings and nature of the violations noted in the referrals.
Visit the Waste Forms and Applications page to access forms, applications, and guidance documents pertaining to Hazardous Waste, Solid Waste, Waste Tires, UST, and Radiation Protection.
Hazardous Waste Information
Generators of hazardous waste are required to comply with applicable hazardous waste container management regulations specified in LAC 33:V.Chapter 10.
A Container Management for Hazardous Waste Generators Guidance Document has been developed by LDEQ in coordination with stakeholders to provide the regulated community guidance and additional clarity on container management regulations and their appropriate application.
Solid Waste & Waste Tires Information
The Proper Disposal of Solid Waste and Waste Tires guidance flyer was developed by Waste Enforcement to provide information on how to properly dispose of solid waste and waste tires.
Did you know?
It is against the law in the state of Louisiana—even on private/personal property—to burn solid waste and to dispose of solid waste or waste tires on the ground.
This video explains that it is against the law in Louisiana to conduct an open burn of household waste, construction debris, tires, and non-vegetative matter. It is important to check your local regulations before burning.
