DEQ offers hands-on training for NetDMR online reporting in Baton Rouge

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality is offering training for permittees on the use of the NetDMR online application for the submission of discharge monitoring reports. A discharge monitoring report, known as a DMR, is a self-reporting document that is generated by permittees who have a Louisiana Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit. The DMR contains information about discharges into waters of the state.

Jeffrey Nolan recognized by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for Deepwater Horizon investigation

Jeffrey Nolan, Manager of DEQ's Criminal Investigation Division, was recognized Tuesday by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for Excellence in Criminal Enforcement in the investigation of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill that occurred in April 2010.

DEQ's Drinking Water Protection Program moves to Evangeline Parish

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality has selected Evangeline Parish as the next stop for its drinking water protection campaign, 'Protect Drinking Water One Drop at a Time.' The program's goal is to increase the public's awareness and participation in protecting the area's drinking water.

Orleans Parish Man pleads guilty to illegally dumping waste tires in Algiers

An Orleans Parish man pleaded guilty and was sentenced Wednesday, Feb. 4, in the Orleans Parish Criminal District Court for violating Louisiana's Environmental Quality Act. Michele A. Morris, 54, of Algiers, illegally dumped solid waste near 178 Woodland Parkway in Algiers in January 2013.

DEQ Enviroschool to host free training on construction stormwater permits

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality Enviroschool is sponsoring free training sessions for communities, businesses and other organizations that will give them an understanding of DEQ construction stormwater permits. These sessions will provide an overview of stormwater general permits and the requirements for operators of construction projects to obtain authorization to discharge stormwater. An emphasis will be placed on new requirements in the 2014 Large Construction General Permit, LAR100000.

St. Mary Drinking Water Protection Program schedules second committee meeting

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality Drinking Water Protection Program Team has been working with citizens in St. Mary Parish to protect their drinking water. A committee has been formed and the program has scheduled a second meeting.

State of Louisiana calls on EPA HQ to fulfill responsibility to Louisiana residents and safely dispose of Minden explosives

Today, DEQ Secretary Peggy Hatch and Louisiana National Guard Adjutant Maj. Gen. Glenn Curtis called on the EPA to fulfill its obligation to Louisiana residents and safely dispose of M6 explosives at Camp Minden. In a letter today, Hatch and Curtis called on EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy to "intervene to address the persistent mishandling of M6 disposal at Camp Minden by EPA Region 6."

McNeely named DEQ assistant secretary for environmental compliance

Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Secretary Peggy Hatch named Chance McNeely assistant secretary for environmental compliance, a recently vacated unclassified position, effective Jan. 12. McNeely was previously a policy advisor in the Office of the Governor where he served as a liaison to DEQ.
