Environmental Law Enforcement Training Workshop to be held Oct. 14

An Environmental Law Enforcement Training Workshop will be held Wednesday, Oct. 14, from 8:30 to noon at the Central Louisiana Business Incubator, 1501 Wimbledon Boulevard, Alexandria, LA 71301. The workshop will be a unique opportunity to hear from federal, state and local law enforcement regarding environmental crimes and environmental laws. Speakers will provide important information regarding the laws and actions regarding illegal dumping and burning, water pollution, littering and air pollution.

Ouachita River 2015 Water Sweep to be held Sept. 19

A litter and debris cleanup effort along the Ouachita River and surrounding waterways in the Monroe and West Monroe area will take place 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19. The "2015 Water Sweep" will be staffed by volunteers who donate their time and personal watercraft to remove debris along the river and shoreline.

DEQ's Drinking Water Protection Program moves to St. Martin Parish

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality has selected St. Martin Parish as the next stop for its drinking water protection campaign, "Protect Drinking Water One Drop at a Time." The program's goal is to increase the public's awareness and participation in protecting their area's drinking water.

Environmental Crime Investigation Techniques course to be held August 4-7 in Baton Rouge

An Environmental Crime Investigation Techniques course will be held on August 4 through 7 at the Belle of Baton Rouge Hotel, 103 France St., Baton Rouge, LA 70802. Registration is from 1 to 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 4, with class concluding at noon on Aug. 7. The course is hosted by the Southern Environmental Enforcement Network and the Criminal Investigation Division of the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality.

DEQ offers hands-on training for NetDMR online reporting in three locations

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality is offering training for permittees on the use of the NetDMR online application for the submission of discharge monitoring reports. A discharge monitoring report, known as a DMR, is a self-reporting document that is generated by permittees who have a Louisiana Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit. The DMR contains information about discharges into waters of the state.

Lafourche Parish man sentenced to jail and to pay $50,000 restitution for environmental crime, theft and criminal damage to property

Yesterday, a Lafourche Parish man, who was arrested in September 2014 by the Criminal Investigation Division of the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality for the illegal discharge of diesel fuel into state waterways, pled guilty to this charge in the 17th Judicial District Court in Thibodaux.
