DEQ, law enforcement partners, team up to crack down on illegal inspection stickers

The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office and the Louisiana State Police, in cooperation with the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, are cracking down on the use of altered and counterfeit inspection stickers on vehicles. In the last 10 weeks, more than 200 fraudulent stickers have been located and confiscated. Investigations have shown that these inspection stickers have been issued to drivers who lack the proper paperwork or whose vehicles would not pass inspection.

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality is hosting a free EPA Brownfields Grant Proposal Writing Strategy Workshop on Thursday, Sept. 26. The workshop will be held in the Pensacola Room of DEQ headquarters at 602 N. Fifth Street, Baton Rouge.

Enviroschool to present free seminars on Air Permits 101

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality is hosting a free seminar entitled "Air Permits 101: Understanding the Basics" in four different locations around the state. The session will give you a basic understanding of air permitting including the types, associated regulations and the permitting process.

May is Air Quality Awareness Month in Louisiana

Several organizations that work for cleaner air held a press conference at the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality today to recognize Air Quality Awareness Month and to promote the Advance Program.May is Air Quality Awareness month, both nationally and in Louisiana. While the air quality in Louisiana is better than it has been since the implementation of the Clean Air Act, May is also traditionally the start of ozone season. DEQ is encouraging citizens to become familiar with the Air Quality Index, to understand what causes ozone formation and to take voluntary steps to help prevent the formation, further improve air quality and meet or continue to meet the current national air quality standards.

The Coast Guard, along with the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality and partner agencies, are responding to reports of an odor that was in the vicinity of New Orleans, Wednesday.

DEQ adds VISA to EPay options

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality continues to enhance its electronic business model and has developed many online services, including the ability to pay fees. All fees invoiced by the department can be paid online. This includes monitoring and maintenance fees, annual registration fees, annual licensing fees and most pre-paid application fees.

EPA Marks March 18-24 as Fifth Annual Fix a Leak Week

One in every 10 homes has a leak that is wasting at least 90 gallons of water per day. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) WaterSense program encourages Americans to check and replace leaky plumbing fixtures and sprinkler systems, helping households save more than 10,000 gallons of water per year and as much as 10 percent on utility bills.
