The Enviroschool session on Air Permitting 301 scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 12, at the LSU Ag Center in Lake Charles has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 3.

U.S. Attorney Kenneth A. Polite announced today that his office has agreed to defer prosecution on the bill of information it filed against the Washington Parish School Board ("school board") charging it with a felony violation of the Clean Air Act for failing to notify the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality of the 2011 demolition of the Old Pine High School which contained regulated asbestos containing material.

Burning waste causes air pollution and the open burning of certain materials is prohibited in Louisiana. There are also local ordinances pertaining to what can and can't be burned. If you have a trash pile and burn household waste, construction debris or anything other than vegetative matter, you are violating the law. Under Title 33, section 1109 of the Louisiana Administrative Code, "no person shall cause or allow the burning of waste or other combustible material on any property owned by him or under his control."

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 6 together have determined that the Crescent Park in New Orleans is Ready for Reuse. A Ready for Reuse Determination is an acknowledgment that environmental conditions on the property are protective of human health and the environment based on its current and anticipated future use.

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality is offering four free training sessions around the state to help the public understand the DEQ air permitting process and the permitting of air emissions

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality has selected St. Mary Parish as the next stop for its drinking water protection campaign, "Protect Drinking Water One Drop at a Time." The program's goal is to increase the public''s awareness and participation in protecting their area's drinking water.
