DEQ Enviroschool offers Permits 101: Understanding the Basics Workshop

In May, the Enviroschool program of the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality is offering free workshops on Permits 101: Understanding the Basics. This workshop will give participants an understanding of what permits are, the different types of permits and the permitting process within each media - air, water and waste.

Houma Company pleads guilty in federal court to felony violation of the Clean Water Act

CTCO Shipyard of Louisiana, LLC, 141 Bayou Dularge Road, Houma, Louisiana, pled guilty yesterday to an environmental crime for violating the terms of its permit for over a year and a half, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

DEQ addresses water quality concerns at Jackson Parish Watershed meeting

Monday, March 19, scientists from the Department of Environmental Quality participated in a meeting with the Jackson Parish Watershed District to discuss the status of Caney Lake, located near Chatham in Jackson Parish.

Hands-on training offered by DEQ for NetDMR online reporting

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality is offering training for permittees on the use of the NetDMR online application for the submission of discharge monitoring reports. A discharge monitoring report, known as a DMR, is a self-reporting document that is generated by permittees that have a Louisiana Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit. The DMR contains information pertaining to water discharges into waters of the state.

Environmental Leadership Awards recognize voluntary pollution reductions

Today, Secretary Peggy Hatch of the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality was joined by Senator Mike Walsworth, chair, Senate Environmental Quality Committee, to recognize environmental achievements at the 2012 Environmental Leadership Program Awards ceremony. New and existing members of ELP were commended for their voluntary pollution prevention efforts, community environmental education and outreach initiatives. The ceremony highlighted projects that went above and beyond regulatory compliance to substantially improve the quality of the environment. In 2012, the ELP enrolled 15 new members.

DEQ to host Pretreatment Workshop in Baton Rouge

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality will hold a Pretreatment Workshop to assist municipalities on Feb 9 from 9:00 A.M-3:00 P.M. The workshop will be held at DEQ Headquarters, 602 N. 5th Street, Baton Rouge in the Oliver Pollock Room. This workshop is intended for municipalities and Publically Owned Treatment Works operators that are required to implement a pretreatment program. Some of the subjects that will be covered are incorporating GIS into a pretreatment

DEQ Drinking Water Protection Program moves to Webster Parish

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality recently selected Webster Parish as the next stop for its drinking water protection campaign, "Protect Drinking Water One Drop at a Time." The program's goal is to increase the public's awareness and participation in protecting their area's drinking water.

DEQ's Water Permits Division issues pesticides pamphlet

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality's Water Permits Division has authored a pesticides pamphlet that is currently available. The pamphlet will be distributed for the first time at the Environmental Regulatory Compliance Conference (ERCC), which will be held at the Riverfront Center in Alexandria on January 25 and 26, 2012. The pamphlet contains a brief summary of the LPDES Pesticides General Permit including frequently asked questions regarding the discharges covered by the permit.
