Hands-on training offered by DEQ for NetDMR online reporting

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality is offering training for permittees on the use of the NetDMR online application for the submission of discharge monitoring reports. A discharge monitoring report, known as a DMR, is a self-reporting document that is generated by permittees that have a Louisiana Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit. The DMR contains information pertaining to water discharges into waters of the state.

DEQ Enviroschool to host free LPDES General Permit workshops in June

DEQ's Enviroschool program is hosting free sessions on the Louisiana Pollution Discharge Elimination System general water discharge permits in four locations around the state in June. The session on LPDES permits will provide an understanding of water discharge applicability, outfall schedules and how effluent limits and requirements are derived. It will also include a basic overview of stormwater general permits and requirements and preview several new general permits.

If you are the owner or operator of a stationary source that emits, or has the potential to emit, 100,000 tons per year or more of carbon dioxide equivalents (CO2e), and you have not been issued or applied for a Title V permit, federal and state regulations require you to apply for a Title V permit on or before July 1, 2012.

The Louisiana Environmental Health Association will hold its 2012 Annual Business Meeting on Thursday, May 24, at the LMOGA House, 730 North Blvd., Baton Rouge.

Asbestos and Lead Workshop to be hosted by DEQ

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality will present a free asbestos and lead workshop on May 23. The purpose of the workshop is to provide a summary of the rule revisions of the asbestos regulations, an overview any new lead-based paint activities revisions if they are still being considered by the legislature and issues encountered by DEQ staff this past year. Guest speaker, Glenn Gomes, M.D., will talk about the medical consequences of asbestos exposure. There will be a question-and-answer period. This workshop is open to the public.

Ribbon cutting ceremony held for St. Landry Parish Landfill Gas Station

Today, representatives from the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, as well as other state and local officials, participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony at the St. Landry Parish landfill to commemorate the opening of its landfill gas fueling station. The event was hosted by the St. Landry Parish Solid Waste Disposal District.

Governor proclaims May as Air Quality Awareness Month

Gov. Bobby Jindal has declared May as Air Quality Awareness Month in Louisiana. May is traditionally the start of ozone season and the proclamation was made to encourage citizens to become familiar with the Air Quality Index, to understand what causes ozone formation and to take voluntary steps to help prevent the formation and improve air quality.
