Investigators within the Criminal Investigation Division of the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality obtained a felony arrest warrant on Sept. 11, 2014, for a Lafourche Parish man for the illegal discharge of diesel fuel into state waterways.

DEQ announced today that an Order to Close was issued to Harrelson Materials Management, Inc. (HMM). The order was signed by DEQ Secretary Peggy Hatch. The Order to Close requires HMM to extinguish fires and subsequently close the company's landfill on Russell Road in Shreveport.

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality is offering training for permittees on the use of the NetDMR online application for the submission of discharge monitoring reports. A discharge monitoring report, known as a DMR, is a self-reporting document that is generated by permittees who have a Louisiana Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit. The DMR contains information pertaining to water discharges into waters of the state.

The workshop is co-hosted by the Regional Planning Commission, the South Central Planning and Development Commission, the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, the Louisiana Brownfields Association and the Technical Assistance to Brownfields Program at Kansas State University.

Today, investigators within the Criminal Investigation Division of the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality arrested a New Jersey man for felony illegal disposal of harmful substances.

Today, the Department of Environmental Quality issued an administrative order requiring a Shreveport landfill owned by Harrelson Material Management, Inc. to cease receiving and disposing of new material, which is believed to be causing fire and smoke issues at the landfill site. DEQ issued the order out of an abundance of caution and is currently testing environmental conditions at the site and monitoring the air in the area.
