Texas Oil and Gas Company pleads guilty to felony

United States Attorney Kenneth A. Polite, announced that WALTER OIL & GAS COMPANY, a Texas corporation residing in Houston, Texas, pled guilty today to a one-count Bill of Information which charged the company with failing to provide notification to the National Response Center of a hazardous discharge, in violation of Title 33, United States Code, Section 1321(b)(5)(C). This charge relates to WALTER OIL & GAS COMPANY’s oil and gas production in the Grand Isle area of the Gulf of Mexico.

Sewage treatment system maintenance class being offered at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux

A sewage treatment system maintenance class is being offered at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux Tuesday and Thursday, Nov. 3 and 5. Sessions begin at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. The class is free and open to the general public. People with their own sewage treatment system and those interested in learning about protecting Bayou Lafourche and the surrounding area from improperly treated sewage are encouraged to attend.

Lafayette Consolidated Government wins an award for their MS4 program

On Sept. 28, the Water Environment Federation (WEF) announced the first winners of a new national municipal stormwater and green infrastructure awards program. Developed through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the program recognizes high-performing regulated Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) communities and inspires them to exceed requirements through innovative and cost-effective approaches.
