Holiday recycling tips from DEQ

Louisiana, like the rest of the nation, produces more garbage in December than any other month. Reducing, recycling and reusing helps reduce trash and keeps it out of the environment and landfills. You can "Be the Solution" and have a more waste-free holiday season by following a few simple tips from the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality.

Iberville Parish man pleads guilty to illegal dumping of pollutants

An Iberville Parish man was sentenced Wednesday, Nov. 13, in the 18th Judicial District Court for violating Louisiana's Water Control Law and the Environmental Quality Act for the second time in three years. Tommy M. Francise, 58, of Plaquemine, illegally dumped wastes, and grease into a drainage canal behind his residence on Talbot Drive in Plaquemine.

Evangeline Parish man pleads guilty to illegally burning waste tires

Today, an Evangeline Parish man who was arrested on March 27, for illegally burning waste tires in the town of Basile, pled guilty to state criminal environmental charges in 13th Judicial District Court in Ville Platte.

Orleans Parish man arrested a second time for illegal dumping in New Orleans East

Yesterday, officers with the New Orleans Police Department 7th District arrested an Orleans Parish man on an outstanding warrant for the alleged illegal dumping of solid waste in New Orleans East. The arrest warrant was signed on June 25, 2013, and originated during an investigation conducted by the Criminal Investigation Division of the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality.

DEQ delivers Hurricane Resource Manual to all 64 parishes

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality is distributing an updated Hurricane Resource Manual to all 64 parishes. The manual contains information pertaining to hurricane/emergency recovery assistance as it relates to permitting, debris collection and environmental cleanup resources. This is the second year DEQ has compiled the manual for the parishes.

Environmental Regulation Update sessions scheduled through DEQ Enviroschool

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality's Enviroschool will host four free sessions on environmental regulation updates. The sessions will provide a review of some state and federal regulations and their implications. Included in the sessions will be help in understanding the delegation of authority to DEQ, how regulations govern the DEQ activities and processes and how the public can participate in the rule making process. The session will also include a review of any new regulatory changes resulting from of the recent legislative session.

Orleans Parish Demolition Company pleads guilty to illegal dumping in New Orleans East

A guilty plea was entered yesterday at the Orleans Parish Criminal District Court by J & L Demolition and Dumpsters, LLC, a demolition and disposal business located at 9330 Chef Menteur Highway in New Orleans East. The company was cited for illegal disposal of solid waste stemming from a multi-agency compliance operation that began in the fall of 2010.

DEQ places second in EPA national EnviroFlash Challenge

DEQ placed second in the 2013 EnviroFlash Challenge by adding479 new subscribers from April 8 to May 31. Thirty agencies throughout the nation competed and recruited a total of 2,179 new subscribers nationwide.
