Hands-on training offered by DEQ for NetDMR online reporting

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality is offering training for permittees on the use of the NetDMR online application for the submission of discharge monitoring reports. A discharge monitoring report, known as a DMR, is a self-reporting document that is generated by permittees who have a Louisiana Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit. The DMR contains information pertaining to water discharges into waters of the state.

DEQ offers free workshops on open burning

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality is sponsoring a free workshop to assist fire departments, municipalities and the general public with understanding the air quality regulations concerning open burning. The workshop will provide a basic understanding of the regulations, as well as information on opening burning do's and don'ts. All workshops will be from 10 a.m. to noon.

Free Brownfields Workshop in New Orleans

If your community has abandoned buildings or potentially contaminated property, you may want to attend a free brownfields workshop being held in New Orleans. The workshop is co-hosted by the Regional Planning Commission, the South Central Planning and Development Commission, the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, the Louisiana Brownfields Association and the Technical Assistance to Brownfields Program at Kansas State University.

DEQ to move Mobile Command Center out of Bayou Corne for routine maintenance

On Monday, June 30, DEQ will move its Mobile Command Center out of the Bayou Corne area for relocation to DEQ Headquarters in Baton Rouge. The Mobile Command Center will undergo routine maintenance in preparation for hurricane season. During the tropical storm and hurricane season, the unit is used as a mobile logistical and operational resource in support of DEQ's emergency response mission.

DEQ issues Administrative Order to cease certain Shreveport landfill operations

Today, the Department of Environmental Quality issued an administrative order requiring a Shreveport landfill owned by Harrelson Material Management, Inc. to cease receiving and disposing of new material, which is believed to be causing fire and smoke issues at the landfill site. DEQ issued the order out of an abundance of caution and is currently testing environmental conditions at the site and monitoring the air in the area.

DEQ delivers 2014 Hurricane Resource Manual to all 64 parishes

This week, the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality began distributing an updated 2014 Hurricane Resource Manual to all 64 parishes. The manual contains information pertaining to hurricane/emergency recovery assistance as it relates to permitting, debris collection and environmental cleanup resources. This is the third year DEQ has compiled the manual for the parishes.
