Bossier Parish receives funding to build wastewater infrastructure

Today, the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality and the Bossier Parish Police Jury celebrated a loan closure for $17,750,000. The funds will be used for a portion of the construction of wastewater infrastructure for the newly established Bossier Parish Consolidated Waterworks and Sewerage District #1.

EPA commends DEQ on electronic discharge monitoring report program

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality is leading the nation with 31 percent of the electronic Discharge Monitoring Reports (eDMRs) submitted by regulated parties.

Environmental Leadership Awards recognize voluntary pollution reductions

Today, Secretary Peggy Hatch of the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality was joined by Senator Mike Walsworth, chair, Senate Environmental Quality Committee, to recognize environmental achievements at the 2012 Environmental Leadership Program Awards ceremony. New and existing members of ELP were commended for their voluntary pollution prevention efforts, community environmental education and outreach initiatives. The ceremony highlighted projects that went above and beyond regulatory compliance to substantially improve the quality of the environment. In 2012, the ELP enrolled 15 new members.

DEQ Drinking Water Protection Program moves to Webster Parish

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality recently selected Webster Parish as the next stop for its drinking water protection campaign, "Protect Drinking Water One Drop at a Time." The program's goal is to increase the public's awareness and participation in protecting their area's drinking water.

DEQ, partners celebrate air quality milestone

Today, the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality and its partners celebrated the redesignation of the five parish area around Baton Rouge from nonattainment to attainment for the air pollutant ozone. EPA's redesignation means it is changing Baton Rouge's status from out of attainment to attainment.

City of Pineville sentenced in illegal discharge case

The city of Pineville was sentenced today in the U.S. District Court, Western District of Louisiana in Alexandria, stemming from an illegal discharge from a pumping station that occurred in September 2008. The city entered a guilty plea back in October 2011.
