DEQ offers online suggestions form for the public

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality has recently launched an online suggestion form for use by the public for the purpose of submitting ideas to the department.

DEQ's Water Permits Division issues pesticides pamphlet

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality's Water Permits Division has authored a pesticides pamphlet that is currently available. The pamphlet will be distributed for the first time at the Environmental Regulatory Compliance Conference (ERCC), which will be held at the Riverfront Center in Alexandria on January 25 and 26, 2012. The pamphlet contains a brief summary of the LPDES Pesticides General Permit including frequently asked questions regarding the discharges covered by the permit.

Remediation completed at Bayou Trepagnier in St. Charles Parish

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality has announced the completion of remediation on a large segment of Bayou Trepagnier in St. Charles Parish.

Rapides Parish man pleads guilty to illegal disposal of wastes

Yesterday, a Rapides parish contractor admitted in 9th Judicial District Court to illegally disposing of wastes. Walter Monroe Smith, Sr., 62, of Pineville and owner of Rapides Roofing and Home Repair, pled guilty to two separate felony counts of illegally disposing of wastes that endangered or could have endangered human life or health.

DEQ investigating illegal dumping of oil in Jefferson Davis Parish

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality's Criminal Investigation Division and Emergency Response are investigating the illegal dumping of oil in Jefferson Davis Parish. On or about Jan. 3 or 4, five 55-gallon drums of used motor oil and off-road diesel were thrown into a ditch on the west side of Lyons Road near East Grand Marais Ditch. Two of the drums were dumped into the East Grand Marais ditch. About six five-gallon buckets of an unknown oily substance were also dumped.

City of Pineville sentenced in illegal discharge case

The city of Pineville was sentenced today in the U.S. District Court, Western District of Louisiana in Alexandria, stemming from an illegal discharge from a pumping station that occurred in September 2008. The city entered a guilty plea back in October 2011.
