Holden company chosen to extinguish landfill fire

DEQ and the State Fire Marshal's Office announced today that Ferrara Fire Apparatus, Inc., a fire fighting company from Holden, has been contracted to extinguish underground fires at the Harrelson Materials Management landfill on Russell Road in Shreveport.

DEQ issues order requiring HMM to extinguish landfill fires

DEQ announced today that an Order to Close was issued to Harrelson Materials Management, Inc. (HMM). The order was signed by DEQ Secretary Peggy Hatch. The Order to Close requires HMM to extinguish fires and subsequently close the company's landfill on Russell Road in Shreveport.

Treadaway named assistant secretary for permits

DEQ Secretary Peggy Hatch named Tegan Treadaway assistant secretary for permits at the Department of Environmental Quality on Aug. 4. Treadaway was administrator of air permits under former Assistant Secretary Sam Phillips who left DEQ July 25.

DEQ offers free Open Burning Workshops

NEW- Revised date for Alexandria The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality is sponsoring a free workshop to assist fire departments, municipalities and the general public with understanding the air quality regulations concerning open burning. The workshop will provide a basic understanding of the regulations, as well as information on opening burning do's and don'ts. All workshops will be from 10 a.m. to noon.

DEQ to move Mobile Command Center out of Bayou Corne for routine maintenance

On Monday, June 30, DEQ will move its Mobile Command Center out of the Bayou Corne area for relocation to DEQ Headquarters in Baton Rouge. The Mobile Command Center will undergo routine maintenance in preparation for hurricane season. During the tropical storm and hurricane season, the unit is used as a mobile logistical and operational resource in support of DEQ's emergency response mission.
