Governor proclaims May as Air Quality Awareness Month 05/01/2017

Gov. John Bel Edwards has declared May Air Quality Awareness Month in Louisiana. Even though the air quality in Louisiana is the best it has been in years, there is still much work to do. May is traditionally the start of ozone season and the proclamation encourages citizens to become familiar with the Air Quality Index, to understand what causes ozone formation and to take voluntary steps to help prevent ozone formation and improve air quality.

Baton Rouge area in attainment for ozone 03/31/2017

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality announces that on March 21, the Greater Baton Rouge redesignation to attainment became effective for the pollutant ozone. The area includes Ascension, East Baton Rouge, Iberville, Livingston and West Baton Rouge parishes.

Baton Rouge's 2008 8-hour ozone nonattainment area re-designated to attainment status 12/15/2016

Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency re-designated the Greater Baton Rouge Nonattainment Area (BRNA) to attainment for the 2008 8-hour ozone standard. The state of Louisiana submitted a request for EPA to re-designate the BRNA to attainment status and to approve a State Implementation Plan (SIP) revision containing a maintenance plan for the area. This is another milestone in Louisiana’s continuing effort to improve air quality.
