What is a a Recycling Collection Center?

A Recycling Collection center is a facility designed and operated solely for receiving, storing, processing or transferring recyclable materials.

 

What is a MRF?

A Material Recycling Facility (MRF) is a processing plant for recyclable material.  A MRF is an essential component residential and commercial waste recycling.

The Recycling Partnership (TRP) offers a free map of MRFs throughout the U.S. The map uses the definition of a Commingled Residential MRF as being a facility that accepts recyclables separated from trash and then brought in for processing as either single stream or dual stream materials to be sorted into individual commodities and sold to market.

Republic Services offers a single stream residential MRF.       

Recycling Basics

Paper & Cardboard- flattened cardboard, newspaper, magazines, office paper and common mail (not contaminated by food, liquid or waste).

Metal Cans- remove paper or plastic labels and clean out any residual material.

Plastic - Can be recycled: hard plastic containers like water bottles, milk jugs and detergent. Cannot be recycled:  flexible plastics like grocery bags, bubble wrap and Styrofoam. 

NEVER put your recyclables in containers or bags.

Marck is a drop off facility and recycling processor. Marck accepts #1 and #2 plastics, paper, cardboard (no glass or metal).

Pratt accepts recyclable materials such as all types of paper, newspapers, magazines, catalogs, office paper, books, corrugated cardboard and mail (glass not accepted). The paper and corrugated cardboard collected are used as raw materials in paper mills and recycled into paper products and packaging.

 


 

St. Landry Solid Waste Disposal District operates 2 residential drop off centers.

  • Opelousas Recycling Center is located at 2717 West Landry Street, Opelousas, LA 70570. (337) 942-9576.
  • Eunice Recycling Center is located at 450 N. C.C. Duson, Eunice, LA 70535. (337) 457-1336.
    • Items accepted at both locations include cardboard, newsprint, shredded paper, files, magazines, other paper products, aluminum, metal cans, and most plastics.

The West Monroe Recycling Center is open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is a free drop-off facility for the general public.


The Recycling Center accepts: Plastics No. 1 and No. 2, cardboard, aluminum and metal cans. The materials collected are bailed and sent to MARCK recycling to be marketed.
