DEQ offers statewide workshops on nonpoint source pollution

Are you familiar with nonpoint source pollution? Do you know what it is, how it affects you and what you can do about it? If not, the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality is sponsoring four free training sessions on nonpoint source pollution for communities, businesses and interested parties.

An Environmental Law Enforcement Training Workshop will be held Wednesday, March 23, 2016, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. the DEQ Galvez Building, Oliver Pollock Room, 602 North 5th St., Baton Rouge, LA 70802. Parking is available in the Galvez Building Parking Garage.

Avoyelles Parish man arrested for illegal disposal of waste tires

On Friday, Feb. 5, deputies from the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff's Office arrested an Avoyelles Parish man for the alleged illegal disposal waste tires in connection with a Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality criminal investigation.

Chuck Carr Brown, Ph.D becomes the 12th DEQ Secretary

Gov. John Bel Edwards named Dr. Chuck Carr Brown secretary of the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality on Jan. 11. Brown’s appointment is a homecoming. He previously worked at DEQ from 2004 to 2008, serving as assistant secretary for environmental services.

DEQ's Criminal Investigation Division to host webinar on Litter Courts on Jan. 28

On Thursday, Jan. 28 at 10 a.m., representatives from the Criminal Investigations Division from the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality will host a webinar on how to start and operate a litter court within your municipality, city or parish.

– In response to the heavy rainfall that occurred over the past month, the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality has prepared for rising water levels along the Red River, Mississippi River and Atchafalaya River throughout the state.

Texas Oil and Gas Company pleads guilty to felony

United States Attorney Kenneth A. Polite, announced that WALTER OIL & GAS COMPANY, a Texas corporation residing in Houston, Texas, pled guilty today to a one-count Bill of Information which charged the company with failing to provide notification to the National Response Center of a hazardous discharge, in violation of Title 33, United States Code, Section 1321(b)(5)(C). This charge relates to WALTER OIL & GAS COMPANY’s oil and gas production in the Grand Isle area of the Gulf of Mexico.
