Radiological Emergency Planning and Response (REP&R)

The mission of the Radiological Emergency Planning and Response (REP&R) Program is to protect the health and safety of the public and environment in the event of a radiological incident. In order to fulfill this mission, the REP&R program is responsible for developing and maintaining the Louisiana Peacetime Radiological Response Plan for any potential incidents at nuclear power plants affecting the citizens and environment of the State of Louisiana.

Nuclear power plants located in Louisiana are River Bend Station in St. Francisville, and Waterford-3 Steam Electric Station in Taft. There is also the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station in Port Gibson, Mississippi which has the potential to affect Tensas Parish in Louisiana

FEMA evaluated full scale exercises are conducted every other year for each nuclear power plant to demonstrate reasonable assurance that plans and procedures are in place to ensure the health and safety of the public can be protected in the event of a nuclear power plant incident.

Emergencies at a Nuclear Power Plants are classified in four ways; Unusual Event, Alert, Site Area Emergency, and General Emergency.
