Sewage treatment system maintenance class being offered at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux

Baton Rouge - A sewage treatment system maintenance class is being offered at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux Tuesday and Thursday, Nov. 3 and 5. Sessions begin at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.

The class is free and open to the general public. People with their own sewage treatment system and those interested in learning about protecting Bayou Lafourche and the surrounding area from improperly treated sewage are encouraged to attend.

Information will be provided on how to properly maintain a sewage treatment system while taking measures to avoid unsanitary conditions that could impact homes and businesses in the parishes of Ascension, Assumption and Lafourche.

The class is being hosted by the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality and Louisiana Rural Water Association in partnership with Nicholls State University, the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals and the Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program.

Citizens are encouraged to attend one of the classes listed below. Classes are an hour and a half in duration and will be held at Gouaux Hall, which is located across from the Ellender Memorial Library at the corner of Afton Drive and Madewood Drive on the Nicholls State University campus.

  • Tuesday, Nov. 3
    2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Room 301, Gouaux Hall
    6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Room 101, Gouaux Hall
  • Thursday, Nov. 5
    2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Room 301, Gouaux Hall
    6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Room 101, Gouaux Hall

In addition to the class, citizens are encouraged to attend one of the free 20-minute, hands-on demonstrations on Wednesday, Nov. 4, at 560 and 562 La. 308 in Thibodaux. Demonstrations will repeat every 30 minutes, beginning at 2 p.m. and ending at 7 p.m.
