Executive Director Curt Eysink of the Louisiana Workforce Commission will speak about the state’s green jobs initiative. The presentation will focus on opportunities for Louisiana’s business community to benefit from global demand for green products and services while increasing the environmental quality of life for Louisiana citizens. Eysink will present research findings from an 18-month study of Louisiana’s green economy and discuss ways in which the workforce investment community will ensure Louisiana workers are prepared to meet changing employer needs.

Energy Solutions, LLC, is a Louisiana company that manufactures high quality, renewable energy products. Energy Solutions has developed the Apollo MMX, a solar tracking device which uses sunlight to produce electricity. Solar tracking maximizes power production by positioning the panels directly in front of the sun throughout the day. The Apollo MMX is unique because it tracks the sun by tilting the panels in two planes instead of rotating them. As a result, the Apollo MMX creates 60% - 80% more energy than traditional stationary solar systems.

Its revolutionary compact design and surface mount technology make it easy to install and maintain. Utilizing surface mount technology allows the Apollo MMX to be installed on flat roof buildings, an area inaccessible by tracking systems until now.

Chesapeake’s “Fueling the Future” initiative supports using Compressed Natural Gas, (CNG), to fuel our 4700 fleet vehicles including a nationwide Natural Gas Vehicle market development program.

Steve addressed the topic of “Is everything that is “green” sustainable?” As one of the largest recyclers in the world Nucor would be considered very sustainable by most measures but, is it also considered to be a “green”? He talked about how “green washing” demanding “green” can lead to unsustainable practices and products that may have more significant impacts than other less “green” alternatives.

AquaGreen

Aqua Green, LLC is an established aquaculture firm located in Perkinston, MS. The company is involved in production of freshwater and marine finfish for food as well as for restoration purposes. Aqua Green is the only commercial inland producer of marine fish in the Gulf coast region and employs recirculating aquaculture technologies coupled with novel wastewater management strategies. A number of juvenile marine finfish species can be produced by Aqua Green to help restore Louisiana as well as other Gulf coastal state waters including red drum (Sciaenops ocellatus), spotted seatrout (Cynoscion nebulosus), cobia (Rachycentron canadum), southern flounder (Paralichthys lethostigma), Florida pompano (Trachinotus carolinus), and Atlantic croaker (Micropogonias undulates). In addition to its finfish production capabilities, Aqua Green is exploring the use of facility effluent for the aquaponic production of various fresh and saltwater plant species for food as well as restoration purposes. To complement the company’s research and development program, Aqua Green has established working relationships with the following partners: Auburn University, Gulf Coast Research Laboratory, Louisiana State University, Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium, Mississippi Dept. of Marine Resources, Mississippi State University, Mote Marine Laboratory, Southern University, and USDA. Aqua Green can provide immediate impact to the restoration of finfish of importance to Gulf of Mexico inshore and near shore waters.

Vapor Point

Vapor Point, a Louisiana owned company offers innovative emission control technology to meet the challenges of the 21st century. Vapor Lock, our patented hydraulic amalgamation recovery process, utilizes proprietary chemistry to recover harmful VOC’s that would traditionally be released to the atmosphere. The Vapor Lock system offers a solution to meet or exceed the challenging standards and regulations for air quality from the state and federal levels. Our system will treat high – inlet concentrations of VOC emissions with a small manageable footprint that can be located close to the emission source. The Vapor Lock system recycles harmful vapors and converts them to recovered fluid with high BTU value, without creating waste. This GREEN technology maintains efficiency recovery of > 95 % and will greatly reduce if not eliminate the excessive use of traditional technologies such as carbon, and disposal issues associated with them. In addition to controlling VOC emissions, the Vapor Lock device can also be used to capture other harmful constituents such as H2S, Ammonia, Mercaptins, etc.
